  • Shadi Kourosh, MD, MPH, Assistant Professor of Dermatology at Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA

On Thursday night, Dr. Terry Cronin and his niece, and fellow dermatologist, Dr. Megan Cronin led a lively panel discussion on how to deal with sexism, and ageism, for the young dermatologist. The panel consisted of Dr. Laurin Council, Dr. Shawna Flanagan, and Dr. Shadi Kourosh. All had great stories and recommendations for dealing with those that do not treat the female doctor as an expert. Many of the suggestions dealt with humor! “I don’t care what you call me, as long as you do not call your lawyer.” There were also suggestions on how to enlist the staff around you to assist you. They can support your authority by calling you doctor and helping to correct patients. The audience also had great stories on how they have dealt with sexism during their education and at their practices
