This non-profit organization in Central Florida provides free inpatient care to under-resourced women suffering from addiction and co-occurring disorders. Drs. Leah Jacob & Katharine Saussy hosted an outreach event at the New Orleans Women & Children's Shelter. They discussed the basics of skincare & common skin diseases. February 3, 2020 - Norma Herr Women's Shelter - Cleveland, OH January 27, 2020 - New Providence Women's Shelter - New York, NY January 22, 2020 - Deborah's Place - Chicago, IL Dr. Molly Stout and residents from Northwestern hosted a TIPP event on skincare on a budget at Deborah's Place on January 22nd. The ladies were so grateful for the goodie bags, dinner, and presentation from the doctors. The residents that spent time with the women of Deborah's Place all took home a sense of joy with giving back to the community. December 14, 2019 - The Jenesse Center - Los Angeles, CA Dr. Grimes hosted a holiday event at the Jenesse Center in Los Angeles, CA in December. The women dressed up for a day of joy and dancing, while educating them about a healthier and happier future for themselves and their children. The women could not stop talking about how great the event was even weeks later. They returned happy, excited, and feeling beautiful. The event helped teach the women that they didn't need a man to have a good time or to be beautiful. Dr. Grimes looks forward to bringing more joy, laughter, and education to these women in 2020. December 10, 2019 - Norma Herr Women's Shelter - Cleveland, OH November 13, 2019 - House of the Good Shepherd - Chicago, IL Drs. Itisha Jefferson, Annie Coakley, Wendy Kim and Cindy Krol took part in a shelter outreach event at the House of the Good Shepherd Women’s Shelter in Chicago, IL on November 13, 2019. Drs. Itisha and Annie did a great job presenting on skincare and nutrition on a budget to the appreciative group of 12 residents. The format of talks over lunch, made for a relaxed and comfortable setting, sparking great questions and conversation with the women. The women especially loved the takeaway bags complete with skincare items from Cetaphil, CeraVe and Galderma, makeup/cosmetics from Thrive Causemetics, and sunscreen from La Roche Posay. November 6, 2019 - The Faith House - LaFayette, LA Another wonderful event took place at the Faith House in Lafayette, LA. Drs. August 1, 2019 - Hope House - St. Louis, MO On August 1, 2019, WDS Members Dr. Laurin Council and Dr. Carrie Coughlin, along with medical students from Washington University in St. Louis, visited the St. Louis Transitional Hope House to educate women and their children on the importance of sun protection. Approximately 20 women and children attended the event, which was the third in a series of outreach events held at the shelter this year through WDS. July 24, 2019 - The Faith House - LaFayette, LA Drs. Kim Drew, Frankie Rholden, Elizabeth McBurney, along with Mozelle Fruge and Kathy Roy, a relaxation specialist hosted an event at the Faith House on July 24th, 2019. The event was well attended by over 20 women, and the energy in the room was quite positive. The women also received takeaway bags with skincare samples. July 23, 2019 - InterAct - Raleigh, NC Michele Franklin from MERZ was able to start the program with words of inspiration, Dr. MacLeod then began her Skin Care presentation with enthusiasm. Next, Dr. Culton carried through with a presentation on Self-Care with compassion, it was interactive with questions and some laughs. The women all enjoyed a nice meal and takeaway bags full of skincare products and cosmetics. Their kids were treated to some fun toys and sunglasses too. In the end, the women at the shelter, as well as the staff, had such a great time that they were all asking the doctors to come back for another event! June 2019 - India In an endeavor to share knowledge with the young underprivileged, orphan girl inmates of government Nari niketan (shelter home) Amritsar, Punjab, India, women dermatologists of Amritsar joined hands under the leadership of Dr Rashmi Sarkar, President IWDA on May 25, 2019. Dr Nidhi Sharma gave an elaborate, interactive lecture on skin care tips, self-care, and nutrition in local dialect so as to improve the self esteem of these women residents and help them in facing the world with confidence and in disease free state. These girls enthusiastically participated in the discussions and shared their beliefs about skin care, nutrition. Skin care kits were distributed to them as a part of WDS Global shelter project to fulfill our community social responsibility. In Andhra Pradesh at Vijayawada, IADVL AP Secretary Dr. P. Deeksha organized a meeting of 50 peer counselors for training them on self care and presenting themselves in the public and family life at a shelter home. They were asked to pass on the message to the victims of domestic violence they deal and to give confidence to the victims. In Chandigarh, India, along with Dr Rashmi Sarkar, President, IWDA, active IWDA members, Dr Roma Pandhi, Dr Suruchi Garg, Dr Mala Bhalla and Dr Vanita Gupta got together along with States AIDS Society to deliver talks on skin care, self-care, social etiquettes and STDs to inmates of gender violence at Nari Niketan, Chandigarh on June 1, 2019. Skin care kits were also distributed. In Bengaluru, Dr Rashmi Sarkar, President, IWDA along with Dr Priyanka Kuri, Dr Rajlakshmi, and Dr Nivedita visited Abyashram at Bengaluru distributing skin care products to inmates who were mentally challenged homeless women and also discussed skin care tips. June 19, 2019 - Women Center Alliance - Omaha, NE May 11, 2019 - The Jenesse Center - Los Angeles, CA Drs. Pearl Grimes and Allison Truong hosted a TIPP Women's Shelter Event with the Jenesee Center on May 11, 2019 in celebration of Mother's Day. Attendees gathered for a painting workshop focused on joy. April 24, 2019 - Women Center Alliance - Omaha, NE Dr. Ashley Wysong hosted a successful women shelter event at the Women Center Alliance in Omaha, Nebraska on April 24, 2019. This was the second event in a planned multi-part series. A group of 10 women gathered to discuss the topic "Total Wellness for Women." The next event is already planned for June. Thanks to Shauna Higgins, MD, Marissa Lobl, Madison Grinnell, Zachary Kwapnoski, Aaron Cronican, Kathryn Rentfro, and Rachel Samuelson for volunteering their time for this great event. April 10, 2019 - House of the Good Shepherd - Chicago, IL Drs. Andia Mitri and Jackie Dang hosted another event at the House of Good Shepard, this time focusing on the kids in the shelter. The doctors presented a talk on skin and how to keep it healthy and protect it. The children were very engaged during the talk and had some great comments and questions for the doctors. After the talk, the kids enjoyed a healthy lunch and explored the items in their goodie bags generously donated by our sponsors. March 30, 2019 - Kushalta Vikas Kendra - New Delhi, India Dr. Rashmi Sarkar in part with the Indian Women's Dermatologic Association and the Women's Dermatologic Society hosted the inauguration of the WDS Global Shelter Project with Dr. Pearl Grimes in New Delhi India with a vision to empower women. Women at the shelter were educated on skin care tips and maintaining hygiene on a day to day basis. The doctors also educated the women on nutrition and food items essential for a wholesome diet. The women were encouraged to incorporate their new knowledge into their daily lives, and to spread awareness to others in their community. Takeaway bags full of skincare products were also provided to the women to help them get started. Dr. Sarkar stated "we had an amazing day interacting with the residents here and we shall take up similar projects with other shelter homes around the country and IWDA will try to help and uplift as many women in need as possible. We are aiming at quarterly camps and will continue to work hard to make this successful. We want to help these women find the strength within themselves to start anew confidently, with a sense of well-being and self-respect." Dr Grimes accompanied Dr Sarkar and her team, including Dr Latika Arya, Dr Sonali Langar, Dr Surabhi Sinha, Dr Richa Ojha Sharma, Dr Atula Gupta and Dr Pallavi Ailawadi, during the Indian leg of the global project. March 16, 2019 - Hope House - St. Louis, MO On March 16, 2019, WDS members Drs. M. Laurin Council and Carrie Coughlin visited the St. Louis Transitional Hope House as part of the WDS Women's Shelter Events. Together with medical students from Washington University, Drs. Council and Coughlin provided the residents with a lunchtime discussion and educational program on skin cancer. After the discussion, residents enjoyed viewing their faces under the skin analyzer machine to determine whether they had any signs of UV damage. Residents were all provided with sunscreen samples in their take-away bags, and many commented that they look forward to future WDS events. February 27, 2019 - Women Center Alliance - Omaha, NE Drs. Ashley Wysong, Shauna Higgins, and Marissa Lobl hosted a successful women shelter initiative event at the Women’s Center for Advancement in Omaha, Nebraska on February 27, 2019. This was the first event in a planned multi-part series. A small group of women attended and were extremely engaged and had lots of questions around the topic “nutrition on a budget.” Dr. Wysong stated, “We are so honored to be a part of the TIPP program and the WDS — the shelter initiative is a fantastic way for WDS members to get involved in their local communities. The WDS provided nutritional meals for all attendees and made it super easy to plan the event!” Their next event is already planned for April. February 23, 2019 - The Faith House - LaFayette, LA February 2019 - The Jenesse Center - Los Angeles, CA Dr. Grimes hosted another wonderful event at the Jenesse Center this past February. This event focused on the kids staying at the shelter. Dr. Grimes brought in a face painter, a balloon artist, a story teller, and a bouncy house! The event focused on Love for one's self, and having a good time. The women and the kids all had a blast. January 29, 2019 - Norma Herr Women's Shelter - Cleveland, OH Drs. Elizabeth Tracey & Manisha Manmohan along with doctors from the Cleveland Clinic hosted a kickoff event at the Norma Herr Women's Shelter in Cleveland, OH on January 29th. During this event, the women of the shelter had a chance to brainstorm what they wanted to know from the doctors in the upcoming sessions. Many ideas were thrown out such as nail care tips, cold weather skincare, how to get rid of dark circles, blackheads, stretch marks, and wrinkles, skincare for women of color, low cost skin care products, and how to exercise and eat healthy. These ideas will act as a spring board for their upcoming events, helping the women be more involved and connected to the program and the doctors helping them. December 15, 2018 - Hope House - St. Louis, MO On December 15, 2018, WDS members M. Laurin Council, MD and Carrie Coughlin, MD, along with resident members Parteek Singla, MD and Tej Mudigonda, MD, met with residents of the St. Louis Transitional Hope House. The mission of the St. Louis Transitional Hope House, a home for women and their children, is to assist each resident family in improving living skills by providing training in job skills, life skills, and health care. Approximately 20 women and their children were in attendance for a lunchtime discussion of "Healthy Skin on a Budget". After a brief presentation of some of the most common dermatologic conditions: acne, seborrheic dermatitis, and skin care during pregnancy, residents asked questions about their own skin and each left with a gift bag containing cleansers, moisturizers, and sunscreen.
December 10, 2018 - Women in Distress (of Broward County) - Pompano Beach, FL Dr. Latanya Benjamin hosted a women's outreach event at the Women in Distress Family Center of Broward County in Pompano Beach, FL. About 20 women gathered to learn about proper skin care. The women also took home takeaway bags filled with goodies from soaps and sunscreens, to lip balm, and lotions. December 1, 2018 - The Jenesse Center - Los Angeles, CA Dr. Grimes hosted a Self-Care themed holiday tea program for the special women of the Jenesse Center. This was the 3rd event in a series, which also covered skin care and nutrition on a budget. This event boasted the vital importance of self-care, a way to show self-love, as a way of life. The women had a beautiful afternoon and left with smiles on their face and a new found passion to embrace themselves. November 14, 2018 - House of Ruth - Washington, DC Dr. Alison Ehrlich hosted a women's outreach event at the House of Ruth in Washington, DC. The women at the shelter were ecstatic about their takeaway bags full of soaps, lotions, lip balms, and sunscreen.

Rebecca Tung, Wendy Kim, Andia Mitri, Jaquelyn Dang, Jessica Vera, and Kari Kopecky took part in a shelter outreach event at the House of the Good Shepherd Women’s Shelter in Chicago, IL on October 24, 2018. Drs. Mitri and Dang did a great job presenting on skincare and nutrition on a budget to the appreciative group of 12 residents. The format of talks over lunch, made for a relaxed and comfortable setting, sparking great questions and conversation with the women. The women especially loved the takeaway bags complete with toothbrushes from Delta Dental, skincare items from Dove and Galderma, chap stick from Eco Lips, and sunscreen from BadgerBalm. September 12, 2018 - The Faith House - LaFayette, LA Dr. Elizabeth McBurney and her team hosted another event at the Faith House on September 12, 2018. Ten women from the shelter joined in for a day of health, well-being, and exercise. Everyone got in on the action with Dr. Kim Drew leading the way through band exercise. Afterwards Dr. Frankie Rholdon spoke on seborrheic dermatitis, and Dr. Elizabeth McBurney spoke on the use and differences of sunscreens. Ms. Mozelle Fruge finished the event with a calm meditation. August 18, 2018 - The Jenesse Center - Los Angeles, CA As a continuation of our TIPP service initiative, Dr. Pearl Grimes and WDS held the first Social Skills and Etiquette Shelter Event for the women of Jenesse Center in Los Angeles, CA. Attendees joined together over a three course brunch to review interview skills, dining etiquette, and social decorum including personal presentation and conversation tips. The interactive event made for a truly transformative and interconnecting day that empowered the women for the next phase of their lives. Dr. Grimes is also happy to report that our previously planted garden continues to flourish! July 11, 2018 - The Faith House - LaFayette, LA Drs. Elizabeth McBurney, Kim Drew, Frankie Rholdon, and Ms. Mozelle Fruge hosted their second successful women's shelter event at the Faith House in Lafayette, LA. Growing off of their previous event in June, the number of attendees more than doubled with 12 women joining together for an evening of empowerment and education. July 2, 2018 - YWCA - Toledo, OH Dr. Mona Gohara hosted an engaging women's shelter event at the YWCA in Toledo, Ohio. The event was well attended by a group of 17 women from various backgrounds, ethnic groups, and ages ranging from 9 to 65 years old. They discussed skin care and nutrition on a budget, shared lunch, and received product samples. Dr. Gohara hopes that this can be a long and lasting partnership. June 16, 2018 - The Jenesse Center - Los Angeles, CA Dr. Grimes and her team of volunteers hosted a day of body, mind, and skincare at the Jenessee Center in Los Angeles. She educated participants on general skincare and nutrition to help empower themselves and boost their self-esteem. The day concluded with everyone working together to plant a community garden at the Jenessee Center! June 13, 2018 - The Faith House - LaFayette, LA Dr. McBurney and her team of dermatologists hosted an event at the Faith House in Lafayette, LA. Her event was so well received by the women at the shelter, that they are already planning a second event in July! |
