By Wendy E. Roberts, MD
s your new President, I know for certain that we want to engage and involve you in WDS. Meaningful professional relationships and friendships are made through WDS networking, mentoring, career development and community service activities. At any time throughout the year, you can connect with this vibrant, powerful and highly talented network of colleagues.
WDS is an organization that has achieved many firsts. Of our three largest national dermatologic societies, WDS is the first to elect an African-American President. Our Founding President Wilma Bergfeld, MD became the first woman President of the American Academy of Dermatology. WDS had the savvy to bring the first television special about dermatology to NBC stations airing in May 2008. There are many other firsts that you may recall and many firsts yet to be achieved.
WDS continues this growth in a beautiful way... like a rose garden. We are interested in your unique gifts and interests.
WDS is not an "ole-boy" or "ata-girl" club. We do not rise to leadership by the "who-you-know" informal power networks. We ascribe to the "work hard to contribute method"...that means any WDS member can get on a committee, share your ideas, use your gifts, work hard, and rise to leadership roles.
Our WDS mission is to identify, train and recognize leaders in dermatology. The WDS vision is to encourage and support women to maximize their personal and professional potential and to contribute to our specialty and Society. So, I invite you all to get more involved in WDS. Let’s all stay engaged, excited and in touch throughout the year. I look forward to working with all of you.
