The President's Award is given at the discretion of the President of the WDS to an individual of their choosing. This year's awardee is an individual who has gone above and beyond to grow the Society and make it a better organization.
Sandra I. Read, MD has been involved with WDS for many years, she has been long-standing member, has served on the Board of Directors, Chaired the Task Force that planned the 1998 Renewal Weekend, helped plan the Annual Luncheon and served on many WDS Committees over the years. She is currently a member of the International Affairs Committee and has been instrumental in planning the 2002 International Women's Dermatology Retreat, where she will be the only speaker representing the US.
In 2001, Dr. Read took on the daunting task of serving as the WDS Newsletter Editor. In this position, she truly shines. In the time that she has been the Editor, she has developed several new recurring sections, including, "Women in Washington" and "Life Beyond Medicine." She has also instituted a redesign of the newsletter for the first issue of 2002 and her camera is always poised to capture the joy of WDS events for publication in the newsletter.
Dr. Read has encouraged the integration of WDS to include dermatologists of all ages, ethnic backgrounds, and from all segments of our profession whether in private practice research academic or industry and to reach out to our international dermatologists around the world. Her unbounded energy and commitment to WDS are unparalleled and her and enthusiasm for WDS makes her one of the Societies most valuable assets.
