Dr. Berson received her undergraduate degree from Cornell University, College of Arts and Science, where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. Dr. Berson then pursued her medical education at New York University School of Medicine. She completed her internship in internal medicine at Bellevue Hospital, NYU Medical Center, and her residency in dermatology at State University of New York Health Science Center at Brooklyn, where she served as Chief resident during her final year of training. Dr. Karen Burke is a dermatologist and research scientist. Following her Ph.D. in biophysics from Cornell University, she completed post-doctoral fellowships at Cornell University Medical College and The Rockefeller University. Dr. Burke earned her M.D. at New York University Medical College with residency in dermatology. She is on the faculty of the Department of Dermatology at Mount Sinai Medical Center and of the Department of Medicine at Cabrini Medical Center.

Dr. Burke is the author of four popular health books: Thin Thighs for Life, Great Skin for Life, Thin Thighs Diet and Workout, and Thin Thighs – all of which were published in England and translated into more than seven other languages. She has written numerous research articles and medical textbook chapters and is frequently quoted as a health and skin care expert in many magazines including: Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Glamour, Elle, In Style, and Family Circle.
Dr. Burke has been a consultant to many companies including L’Oréal (Paris, France) and Ethicon (New Jersey). She has been cited as one of New York’s prominent physicians by New York Magazine and is listed in the Castle-Connolly Guide to Best Doctors. Dr. Burke is also active member of numerous scientific and medical organizations as well as the Women’s Forum of the United Nations and the Europe Society.

Dr. Valerie Dawn Callender received her medical degree from Howard University College of Medicine in Washington, DC. She completed her internship in Internal Medicine and her residency in Dermatology at Howard University Hospital in Washington, DC. Dr. Callender is board certified in dermatology and currently in private practice in Mitchellville, Maryland.

Dr. Callender has lectured nationally and internationally on cosmetic dermatology, pigmentary disorders and ethnic hair and has published several articles and book chapters on these subjects in dermatology literature. In addition, Dr. Callender serves as a medical consultant on several pharmaceutical advisory boards and is a medical writer for Sister 2 Sister Magazine. Furthermore, Dr Callender has been quoted in Heart & Soul, Health, Allure, Self, O, Simple, and Essence magazines and featured in the Prince Georges’ Journal, Washington Post, Black Entertainment Television and WBAL-TV.

Although Dr. Callender enjoys teaching the art of dermatology and dermatological surgery to medical students and resident physicians, she especially enjoys talking with high school students on career development and sponsoring an annual health & beauty summit for women of color, that provides the latest health and research information to over 1000 women in her community.

Dr. Cook- Bolden is a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Dermatology at the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University. Dr. Cook-Bolden is also a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, American Society of Dermatologic Surgery, American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery, National Medical Association, American Society of Cosmetic Dermatology and Aesthetic Surgery, Women’s Dermatologic Society, and Manhattan Medical Society. She serves on many advisory boards and as a consultant for the pharmaceutical, laser, and beauty industry.

Dr. Cook-Bolden has written many journal articles in the dermatologic, pediatric and other medical literature. In addition to writing, Dr. Cook-Bolden has also been quoted in numerous publications on skin diseases and skincare issues, including: InStyle, Cosmopolitan, CosmoGirl, Real Simple, Fitness, Self, Essence, YM, Women’s World, Prevention, Lucky and many others. She is also the author of “Beautiful Skin of Color - A Comprehensive to Asian, Olive, and Dark Skin.”

Dr. Cook-Bolden’s home is currently in Westchester County, New York where is very active in her community and has provided dermatology services to the underserved population at the Mount Vernon Community Health Center and the Brownsville Community Health Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Dr. Amy Derick practices both medical and cosmetic dermatology at Derick Dermatology located in Barrington, Illinois, a northwestern suburb of Chicago.
Dr. Derick graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Notre Dame. She subsequently received a medical degree with Honors from the Pritzker School of Medicine at the University of Chicago. After an Internal Medicine internship at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Dr. Derick completed a Dermatology residency at the University of Chicago Hospital, serving as chief resident during her final year.

Dr. Derick has published several scholarly articles and delivered presentations on the national level. Her research on body art has been featured in media sources such as CNN, The Wall Street Journal, and on the television show, The View. In addition, Dr. Derick has been a featured speaker at the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation’s national meeting.

A newlywed, Dr. Derick and her husband Michael, a hedge fund manager, appreciate life in the suburbs after many years living in downtown Chicago.

Dr. Harper completed her undergraduate studies at Southeast Missouri State University. Dr. Harper then received her M.D. from the University of Missouri, Columbia School of Medicine and went on to complete an internship in Internal Medicine. In 2000, Dr. Harper completed her dermatology Residency at the University of Missouri, Columbia.

Today, Dr. Julie Harper lives in Birmingham where she is an Associate Professor of Dermatology at the University of Alabama-Birmingham. She has written and spoken on the subject of acne and rosacea extensively. Some of Dr. Harper’s writings can be found in journals such as Practical Dermatology Advances in Dermatolgoy, and Cecil’s Review of General Internal Medicine 8th edition. She is married and has two children.

Dr. Kakita received her BS from the University of California, Berkeley and her MD from the University of California, San Francisco, then interned at Children's Hospital in Los Angeles. She completed her residency at UCLA, and immediately joined the faculty, where she has been for over 30 years. In addition to being a part of the faculty at UCLA, Dr. Kakita also has a private practice in Glendale, CA.

Dr. Kakita is one of the most dedicated members of the Women’s Dermatologic Society and she strongly believes in its missions of networking and mentoring. In addition to her private practice, academic responsibilities, clinical research, Dr. Kakita is also dedicated to her active family life.

Dr. Kane graduated with Honors from the University of California, Los Angeles. She subsequently received her medical degree with Honors from the University of California, Davis School of Medicine. She did an internship and residence in pediatrics at UCLA where she graduated with Honors. Later, Dr. Kane completed a second residency and chief residency in dermatology at Harbor UCLA Medical Center.

Dr. Kane was the first woman physician partner to work at Memorial Medical Group and the first woman physician to serve on the Long Beach Memorial Medical Center Board of Directors. Dr. Kane also serves on the Long Beach Memorial Center Board of Trustees Medical Affairs committee, and is past chairwoman of the medical education committee.

Dr. Kane has been selected as one of America’s top Doctors/Best Doctors in America from 1998 to 2006. She was voted outstanding woman physician of the year in 1994 by the Long Beach Medical Association and in 1996 was named one of LA’s best docs in LA Magazine. In 1998 Soroptomist International voted her as outstanding woman of the year.

Arielle N.B. Kauvar, M.D. graduated from Princeton University where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma Xi. She received her medical degrees from the Harvard Medical School and the Health Science and Technology program at M.I.T. Dr. Kauvar completed her dermatology residency at New York University Medical Center followed by a fellowship in Mohs micrographic surgery and laser surgery.

She has served as Chief of Laser and Cosmetic Dermatology and Co-Director of Procedural Dermatology at SUNY Downstate Medical Center. She is currently Past President of the Dermatologic Society of Greater New York, and serves on the Board of Directors of the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery.

Dr. Kauvar has published and lectured extensively on a national and international basis on laser and dermatologic surgery. She has authored over one hundred publications, including a comprehensive textbook of laser surgery, Principles and Practices in Cutaneous Laser Therapy. She has served on the editorial boards of the Archives of Dermatology, Dermatologic Surgery and Cosmetic Dermatology.

Dr. Kauvar has pioneered therapeutic laser and cosmetic surgical techniques in the treatment of wrinkles, sun damage, birthmarks, hair removal, leg veins and tattoos, which are now commonly used throughout the world.

Dr. Lawrence earned her B.A. degree from Tulane University in 1983, and her M.D. from the Tulane University School of Medicine in 1987. Following her internship and residency in dermatology at Tulane, Dr. Lawrence accepted a fellowship in dermatopathology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Thereafter, she completed a Mohs Cutaneous Oncology Surgical fellowship, under the direction of Willis Cottel, MD in Dallas, Texas.

Dr. Lawrence is a member of the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery, the American Society of Dermatology, the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery and the American College of Mohs Micrographic Surgery. In addition, Dr. Lawrence has published medical studies in the leading journals of dermatology and has presented papers at major conferences in her field. She is the author of a book on skin rejuvenation and numerous chapters and articles on liposuction, chemical peeling, skin cancer and laser resurfacing.

Dr. Lupo has taught fillers, BOTOX, sclerotherapy, chemical peels and laser therapies at Tulane University since 1984. As a member of the Allergan National Training Center and National Education Faculty, she teaches BOTOX injection techniques to other physicians. She was chosen to be on the advisory panel for Sculptra prior to FDA approval and is an instructor for Dermik for this filler. She has been a faculty member for the American Society for Dermatological Surgery’s Filler course, and program director for Tulane Medical School’s BOTOX, Filler, Laser, and Cosmeceutical CME course.

She is the author of 25 published articles and 91 presentations, including the web-based AAD CME program on Botox Cosmetic. Her lectures share her expertise in the treatment of photoaging, non-surgical skin rejuvenation, Sclerotherapy, as well as her knowledge of cosmeceuticals. In 2000, she was the first physician in Louisiana to perform photorejuvenation with Intense Pulsed Light. She was chosen by Inamed to be a FDA investigator in 2004 for a new hyaluronic filler, Juvederm, being evaluated for US distribution.

She has acted as a consultant over the years for Inamed, Bristol Meyers Squibb, Playtex, Kao Brands (Jergens, Curel, Ban, and Biore). In 1995, she founded Dr Mary Lupo Skin Care System, innovative skin care products for her patients and web clients.

Dr. Elizabeth McBurney graduated from the Louisiana State University School of Medicine in 1969. In 1972, Dr. McBurney completed her internal medicine residency in Boston Massachusetts.

Dr. McBurney has won many awards and honors including: the Everett C. Fox Lectureship Award for Outstanding Clinician presented by the American Academy of Dermatology, the “Best Speaker on Special Interests for the Internists” presented by the Internal Medicine Board Review Committee sponsored by LSU Medical School, and the Rose Hirschler Award presented by Women’s Dermatological Society in March 2003

She is a published author of many articles for various medical journals. She has co-authored a book on pediatric dermatology, and contributed chapters to numerous books on the use of lasers for cutaneous conditions.

Dr. McBurney is currently in private practice.

Dr. Ratner earned her medical degree at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and did her residency training in dermatology at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She completed two years of fellowship training in Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Surgery with Dr. Donald Grande at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, MA and the New England Medical Center in Boston.

Dr. Ratner is a Fellowship Training Director for the American College of Mohs Micrographic Surgery, and her fellowship program in Procedural Dermatology was recently approved by the ACGME. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the American College of Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Cutaneous Oncology, as well as Assistant Editor of the Dermatologic Surgery Journal, Associate Editor of the Journal of Dermatologic Treatment, and Contributing Editor for Cutis and Skin Med. Her areas of expertise include skin cancer and facial reconstructive surgery.

Dr. Sandra Read was elected to the American Academy of Dermatology, Board of Directors for 2007-2011. In addition, Dr. Read is an extremely active member of the Women’s Dermatologic Society. Dr. Read has encouraged the integration of WDS to include dermatologists of all ages, ethnic backgrounds, and from all segments of our profession whether in private practice research academic or industry and to reach out to our international dermatologists around the world. Aside from having valuable roles in many Dermatological groups and societies, Dr. Read has a private practice in Washington DC.

Dr. Read has been quoted in hundreds of publications including TIME, Washington Post Health, the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, and Dermatology World. In addition to print media, Dr. Read has also appeared on Good Morning America, CNN, CBS, WUSA, and participated in the Women’s Dermatologic Society’s 2005 Media Day.

Dr. Roberts graduated from Sarah Lawrence College. She then obtained her medical degree from Stanford University School of Medicine. A General Surgery internship and one year of General Surgery residency was completed at Highland General Hospital in Oakland, California. Dr. Roberts completed her Dermatology Residency King-Drew Medical Center in Los Angeles. A Dermatopathology Fellowship was completed at New York University.

Dr. Roberts is Board Certified in both Dermatology and Dermatopathology. She was Director of Dermatology and Dermatopathology at Loma Linda University Medical Center 1992-1996 and continues to teach as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine.

Dr. Roberts has a private practice in Rancho Mirage, California, where she practices Geriatric Dermatology, Cosmetic Dermatology, and Dermatopathology Dr. Roberts is a past president of the California Society of Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery 2004-05. In addition, Dr. Roberts is a member of Annenberg Circle Committee.

As an AAD member, Wendy Roberts has served on The Health Care Delivery Committee, Organizational Structure Committee, Executive Committee of the Advisory Board and Nominating Committee. In 2005 and 2006, Dr. Roberts was voted, “Best Doctor” by Palm Springs Life Magazine.

Heidi A. Waldorf, M.D. is a respected expert in the field of dermatology, including skin rejuvenation and laser technology, as well as skin cancer prevention and treatment. After graduating magna cum laude from Harvard University, Dr. Waldorf received her medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. After completing her internship training at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and residency in the Department of Dermatology at Harvard University School of Medicine, Dr. Waldorf completed a fellowship program in Mohs Micrographic Surgery, Laser Surgery and Cosmetic Dermatologic Surgery. As Director of Laser and Cosmetic Dermatology at Mount Sinai, Dr. Waldorf is contributing to the advancement of laser treatment in cosmetic dermatology and dermatologic surgery.

Dr. Waldorf’s distinguished career includes, among other distinctions, participation on the Vaniqa Advisory Board Committee of Bristol Meyers Squibb; the Dermatology Advisory Council in support of Fundamental Skin Care sponsored by Unilever/DOVE®; and on the BOTOX® Cosmetic Advisory Board for Allergan. In addition to being a member of the BOTOX? Cosmetic Physicians’ Network, Dr. Waldorf is one of a select group of members of the BOTOX? National Education Faculty. Her office, Waldorf Dermatology & Laser Associates, P.C. in Nanuet, NY, presently serves as one of the National Training Centers for the BOTOX® Cosmetic Physicians’ Network.

Dr. Weinkle graduated summa cum laude from the University of Florida in 1974 and completed her residency in Dermatology at Stanford University Medical Center in 1982, where she held the position of Chief Resident. Dr. Weinkle has been in solo private practice since 1984, specializing in Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Cosmetic Dermatology. She has held academic appointments at Stanford University Hospital, the University of California Irvine Medical Center, and most recently at the University of South Florida.

Dr. Weinkle is affiliated with numerous professional societies. She currently serves on the board of directors of the American Academy of Dermatology. She was recently elected to the board of directors of the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery. She has also served as past President of the Women’s Dermatologic Society. Dr. Weinkle serves as vice chairperson of the Dermatologic Foundation and is also a board trustee.

Dr. Weinkle has published over a dozen articles on skin carcinoma, surgical techniques, and cosmetic therapies. She frequently lectures on behalf of the American Academy and other leading dermatology societies. Dr. Weinkle is passionate about all aspects of dermatology: mentoring, scientific innovation, and building enduring relationships within the dermatology community.

A board certified dermatologist specializing in dermatology and dermatologic surgery including state-of-the-art cosmetic surgical procedures, Dr. Wexler is known for her attention to body symmetry and her dedication to meeting patients’ personal goals. Her specialties include full body liposuction using the tumescent technique, facial fat transplantation, Botulinum injection into facial lines and laser resurfacing. Her dermatology group includes specialists in chemical peels, vein injections, laser, collagen implantation and treatment of skin cancer.

After receiving her medical degree in 1979, Dr. Wexler began a four-year residency at Beth Israel Medical Center, where she served three years in the Department of Internal Medicine and one year in the Department of Infectious Diseases. In 1985, she completed a residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center in the Department of Dermatology.

As an expert in the field of dermatology and dermatologic surgery, Dr. Wexler is a published author of medical research and has appeared on national television shows including NBC’s Weekend Today and Good Morning America. She has also been quoted in many high profile national magazines.

After receiving her master’s degree in microbiology from Boston University, Dr. Baldwin spent two years as a research associate in the immunoparisitology laboratory of Dr. John David at Harvard Medical School. She returned to Boston University for her medical training. She completed a medical internship at Yale- New Haven Hospital and then returned to her roots for her dermatology residency and chief residency at New York University Hospital.

Since finishing her residency and obtaining her board certification, she has joined the faculty at the State University of New York at Brooklyn. Since joining the faculty, she has developed interests in acne and keloid scarring. Dr. Baldwin has published and lectured extensively on these topics, as well as many others throughout dermatology.
