WDS Leadership Development Retreat: Life is About Choices

ife is about choices. In fact, it’s the many important choices and actions you take that affect your success as a leader. Developing your leadership skills is the sure-fire way to prepare for what lies ahead. Investing in your personal development now can have far-reaching benefits for you down the road.
That’s why we’re inviting you to attend the WDS Leadership Development Retreat. This is a members-only event designed to provide skills-based training to those members who seek to advance their careers and personal development. Members who actively serve on WDS committees or in other leadership roles are encouraged to apply to attend. Members who wish to get more involved in leadership roles are also eligible to attend. Applicants must be an Active (i.e., voting) member of WDS. The WDS Leadership Development Retreat is not open to Residents. (Alternatively, Residents are encouraged to attend the WDS Member Renewal Retreat which will be held at the Charleston Place Hotel in Charleston, South Carolina, June 20-22, 2008.)
The registration fee of $450 includes up to two nights hotel accommodations; all meals; handouts; training sessions; and shuttle bus transportation to New York City for the AAD Summer Academy. Space is limited to 50 participants.

A professional journalist with experience in broadcasting will lead an interactive seminar to help you understand what gets covered on the news and how to put your best foot forward in an interview situation.

How to Run an Office and Hire Staff
A human resources expert/trainer will guide you through the best practices to deploy in hiring and managing staff.

Becoming an Effective Public Speaker
Because communications mastery is highly subjective, a communications expert will simulate an actual presentation, meeting, etc. There will be a critique of your communications performance via videotape, and you’ll get a chance to be a “silent listener” during a simulated conference call to identify what works and what doesn’t.
