The Women’s Dermatologic Society’s 35th Emerald Anniversary Annual Meeting Luncheon was a shining example of history and substance providing a grand effect. Amid less pomp and circumstance than recent years, business was dispatched, honors were bestowed, Petals & Pearls was unveiled, and history was underscored.

ROSE HIRSCHLER AWARD - Susan Weinkle, MD
Susan H. Weinkle, MD was presented with the 2010 Rose Hirschler Award. This honor, named after the first known female dermatologist in the United States, is given annually to a physician whose contributions to medicine have served to enhance the role of women in the practice of dermatology. Well known to WDS members, Dr. Weinkle has served in many roles, including WDS president in 2001-2002. Her enthusiasm for mentoring and building enduring relationships within the dermatology community has been inspirational.

WDS MENTOR OF THE YEAR - Mary Maloney, MD
Dr. Mary Maloney was honored with the 2010 WDS Mentor of the Year Award in recognition of her longstanding commitment to preparing residents for their careers in dermatologic medicine. Dr. Maloney is the Chief of the Division of Dermatology at the University of Massachusetts, Secretary-Treasurer of the American Academy of Dermatology, and the Treasurer of the International League of Dermatologic Societies. As an exemplary mentor, she incorporates her leadership skills and her medical knowledge to help inspire and nurture young men and women in dermatology.
